People ought to know better that there is nothing free without some other consequence. The fact is that these “ride-sharing” enterprises were intended as an incidental occurrence for drivers who were already going someplace and could take someone along, like a paying hitchhiker but it was corrupted into a commercial enterprise because most drivers are not incidentalbut rather the drivers are working at this almost full-time, waiting for a ping to pick up the next customer. This then turned into a TAXI without the PUC regulation, without the meter, without any real insurance protection. Cabs are not inexpensive but they cover all of these bases. The folks who drive these vehicles have no professional credentials and are not regulated or even have a background check. I would never consider taking a ride with one of them for these reasons. But I happen to be more informed than most and when the accidents start and the insurance coverage is non-existent, and when someone gets killed, then you will hear them cry foul, but only when it hits their wallets. You can pay them now or you can pay them later but don’t think you’ll save money. It will cost you in the end.
