Maryland Insurance Commissioner Therese M. Goldsmith announced the appointment of Michele T. Oshman as the state’s associate deputy insurance commissioner and Victoria August as associate commissioner for compliance and enforcement at the Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA).
As associate deputy commissioner, Oshman will serve as the commissioner’s designee for most quasi-judicial hearings, where aggrieved parties have the opportunity to have their cases heard.
Prior to joining the MIA, Oshman served as the chief deputy director in the Illinois Department of Insurance. In that capacity, she was the senior manager of the department’s Springfield office, overseeing sections that regulate corporate finances, life and health insurance, and property/casualty insurance. Previously, Oshman was a partner in several law firms, litigating a variety of insurance related cases.
In addition, August’s appointment brings another experienced attorney to the MIA. August served as a senior contracts consultant for Becton Dickinson Diagnostics. In that capacity, she drafted contracts to meet regulatory requirements. August also worked in several law firms, where her practice focused on insurance law. She brings more than 10 years of experience in the property/casualty insurance industry, including managing a claims department while attending law school.
