OK, I know you didn’t really mean to imply that because she chose to use a ride-sharing company to save a couple of bucks, that she had it coming, right?

You were just looking for some way to throw an Obama dig into the comments about something not even remotely Obama-related, and this was the first thing that popped into your head.

You’re not REALLY implying that deserved to be raped, right?

See my earlier comments on the other article.
People need to realize, Uber may be able to “locate” the vehicle. However cab companies have large dispatch offices where people are monitoring vehicles at all times… if a driver isn’t going from point A to point B in the correct time frame they quickly know something is wrong.
I guess there are a lot of people in this country who have a lot of money and not enough brains as to what they should do with it!
Anyone can make money if they CRASH an industry, DISOBEY the local and state laws, and CONTINUE to operate without the slightest regard to people’s safety.

Wish some people could learn to make a point without having to use all caps all the time.

This company is serving a need in the market as evidenced by lots of your fellow citizens wanting to use them. Maybe that should tell others they need to innovate.

I still haven’t seen anything on how a personal auto policy responds to the use of a vehicle for Uber.

Since these policies exclude carry passenger for a fee, where is coverage coming from? Uber?

Uber has a policy (issued by James River Insurance Company) that supposedly protects the driver while transporting passengers for hire. There has been back & forth on coverage for when a driver is offering their services but not actually carrying a passenger and/or when on their way to pickup a rider. As gaps and problems occur, Uber has tried to design their coverage to plug the gaps.

One item left out of this report is what (supposedly?) happened prior to the incident, after the person was in the vehicle. The driver apparently told the person they had to pay in cash and subsequently drove them to an ATM. The incident took place after they returned to the vehicle from the ATM.

I am NOT blaming the victim (sorry, caps necessary that time), but that “I only take cash” comment should’ve triggered the person in the car that something was wrong. All Uber’s are paid electronically and, in fact, paying in cash is against Uber’s policy.

Still a horrible story and that fact doesn’t help the victim in their current situation, nor does it do anything to stop things like this from happening in the future.

I’m not sure I would have known that all Ubers are paid electronically. Do they tell you that when you call in?
