No mention of this in this article, but word is she unhooked her harness before falling. Now, there are 2 schools of thought. Common Sense VS Reality. Common sense- why would anyone remove their safety harness 35 feet in the air, no need for locking harnesses. The reality is, the harness should have a locking mechanism so a tourist can not remove it themselves- and that’s how the lawsuit will play out.
Having been on a Go Ape course before, it would be impossible to leave the very first zip line or rope wall without unhooking from one line and re-hooking to another. The course I was on required that you have two hooks in place at all times, except for when you were standing on a platform transferring to a new line, and even then you had to have at least one hook connected to make falling impossible. The training was annoyingly long and thorough at the start of the course, but the points got through to me as I still remember them years later.
Very sad for all involved, but if this truly was a case of her completely unhooking, there’s not much the company could have done.

Not a good summer for the amusement industry. One story after another.
Yes, I better stick to the merry-go-round next time I am down the shore.

If one does a zip line backwards, is is called an unzip line? Maybe that’s why she fell?
There is technology that eliminates the possibility of this happening. Does Go Ape use smart belays?
