Lloyd’s announced that two U.S.-based brokers have been honored for their outstanding achievements in 2003.

Gary Cooney of McGriff, Seibels & Williams was named US Surplus Lines Broker of the Year and John Gilbert of Holborn Corporation, Reinsurance Broker of the Year at a ceremony at Lloyd’s hosted by Lloyd’s Deputy Chairman, John Coldman.

“The winners for 2003 were chosen for their achievements within the US industry and their exceptional contribution to the Lloyd’s market,” said the announcement. “Despite difficult market conditions for brokers last year, the judges paid tribute to the way that they used their knowledge and expertise in dealing with the Lloyd’s market to deliver outstanding solutions for their clients.”

“I would like to congratulate both Gary and John and thank them for their exceptional expertise and ability in broking business with Lloyd’s over the years,” Coldman stated. “The US market is extremely important to Lloyd’s. By working with people like John and Gary, Lloyd’s has been able to maintain and develop its successful relationships within the US market.”

Gary Cooney, McGriff, Seibels Vice Chairman, acknowledged that “to be recognized by Lloyd’s is not only an honor for me, but also the clients and underwriters at Lloyd’s that have made a long term commitment to one another and the hard working dedicated professionals at McGriff, Seibels and Williams that bring these relationships together.”

John Gilbert, Holborn’s President, CEO & Director commented: “I have traded with Lloyd’s for 42 years and we have always had a connection that worked well both ways,” said. “Holborn remains a loyal supporter of the London market and this award represents not only my hard work, but also the work of all those involved in the trading relationship between Holborn and Lloyd’s.”
