Glancy to Lead XL Insurance Global Professional Operations

David Duclos, the COO of XL Capital Ltd.’s insurance operations (XL Insurance) announced the appointment of John R. Glancy as Chief Underwriting Officer for XL Insurance’s Global Professional operations. He previously served as COO of its Design Professional unit.

Glancy will report to Duclos and will direct XL Insurance’s Global Professional operations, which provide professional indemnity, directors and officers’ liability insurance, employment practices liability and management liability on both a primary and excess basis. “These operations also include underwriting teams, like the Design Professional unit, which specialize in providing professional liability programs for architects and engineers, law firms, non-medical providers, business consultants and other small to mid-size businesses,” said the announcement.

XL said Glancy will take over from Rich Banas, “who is leaving the company to pursue other interests, but who will remain on staff until March 31 to assist in the management transition.”

Commenting on Glancy’s promotion, Duclos noted: “John joined XL Insurance in 2003 to build and direct a new underwriting team dedicated to providing professional liability coverage for design professionals. Since joining us, John has directed the continued growth of XL Insurance’s Design Professional business. John clearly knows how to apply his 30 years of strategic thinking, underwriting knowledge and operational experience to achieve strong results.”

Before joining XL Insurance, Glancy was Corporate Vice President of Commercial Lines for Royal & SunAlliance, USA, where he managed the strategic direction, customer acquisition, underwriting claims and overall administration of professional liability coverages for RSA’s DPIC Companies. He also previously held the position of Executive Vice President of Risk Management for CNA Financial and National Accounts Vice President for Travelers Aetna Property & Casualty Company and Aetna Life & Casualty Company.
