Whittington Names Birch as New Asia/Pacific COO

August 2, 2006

Whittington Group, the Singapore-based insurance services provider, announced that Simon Birch has been appointed Chief Operating Officer to lead the Group’s Asia Pacific expansion plans from its Singapore headquarters. He joins Whittington from AXA where he was Asia Head of Partners and Direct Business in Singapore.

“Having spent the past 10 years based in Singapore in various management positions for international insurance companies including Commercial Union (now Aviva), Mr. Birch has extensive experience of the major insurance markets in the region,” the bulletin noted.

Whittington CEO Tony Hobrow commented: “I am delighted to welcome Simon on board at Whittington. We have ambitious expansion plans for the Asia Pacific region and we needed a hands-on manager with first-rate experience of the region, and in Simon I am confident we have found just that.”

He added that as COO for Whittington in Singapore, Birch would be key to the group’s growth around Asia, overseeing current projects and identifying other areas of opportunity for Whittington around the region. “When we made our strategic decision to move our global headquarters from London to Singapore at the end of 2005 we made a statement of intent. Now with Simon’s appointment, I hope we have made another statement that says just how serious we are about servicing the insurance markets in Asia Pacific.

“Whittington has a number of projects on-going in Singapore in which Simon will be closely involved. Our aim is to build a business in the region that will include partnership investment in insurance enterprises, purchase and management of run off portfolios, and support services for which we already have an internationally recognized reputation and track record.”

Birch added: “I am excited about joining such a dynamic Group as Whittington in Singapore. As a specialist insurance service provider offering a range of know-how and experience, I believe Whittington has a lot to offer insurance markets and insurers in the region. Whittington has already made an impressive start to its business life here in Singapore and I intend to take the company to its next stage of development.”
