CII Launches Broker Academy

February 16, 2007

The U.K.’s Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) has launched a
A new learning facility, the “Broker Academy,” under the direction of its Faculty of Insurance Broking.”

David Slade, Chairman of the CII’s Faculty, described the initiative as signaling “the dawn of a new era for professional development within the broking industry. This is the start of something big.”

The Faculty has combined with AXA and the UK’s British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA) to create a “one stop shop” training and development facility dedicated for brokers.

“I am convinced the Broker Academy will flourish because it has been developed by brokers, for brokers,” Slade continued. “We at the Faculty of Broking, AXA and BIBA have helped provide shape and direction, but the essence of the concept has come from brokers themselves.”

The Academy will be available “to both firms and individuals” said the announcement. “This new facility provides brokers with access to an unrivalled range of training and development tools including online learning and assessment, face-to-face training, qualifications and technical updates. Crucially, the Academy’s Excellence Framework will enable users to identify how to link the services on offer to their own specific training needs.

“In keeping with the need for career-long learning and continuous professional development, the Broker Academy is of relevance and benefit to all brokers at all levels of seniority. Broking firms and individuals alike can devise and implement learning and development programs and strategies. It has been developed in consultation with the broking industry and is destined to become the automatic choice for learning and development support across the broking sector.”

Eric Galbraith, BIBA Chief Executive, expressed confidence that BIBA members will avail themselves of the opportunities offered by the Academy. Peter Hubbard, CEO of AXA Insurance, noted the vital importance of continued learning.

The Broker Academy is available at: www.cii.co.uk/brokeracademy, it is funded and maintained by the CII and the Faculty of Insurance Broking. At launch there will be 20,000 users.

“The Academy will continue to expand and develop to reflect changing market circumstances and regulatory changes,” the bulletin concluded. “It will actively seek feedback from brokers to shape future development and will be regularly enhanced so that it continues to meet industry needs.”
