Guy Carpenter & Company, LLC, the global risk and reinsurance specialist of the Marsh & McLennan Companies, announced that Charlie Fry, 35, has been appointed as Global Chief Operating Officer, effective June 4. He will be based in London and report to David Spiller, Guy Carpenter’s President and CEO.
Fry will be responsible for developing, implementing and driving the firm’s global strategic operational initiatives as he oversees the firm’s Client Support Services, Information Technologies and Human Resources groups.
He joins Guy Carpenter from Travelex, where he was Director of Business Development and Operations. In this capacity, his responsibilities included improving the structure and effectiveness of Travelex’s global operations, including processing and support functions. He also oversaw all M&A activity and new business ventures.
Prior to joining Travelex, Fry spent six years at Benfield Group in London, where he held several senior management positions. His responsibilities included strategic projects, such as the preparation of the company for flotation on the London Stock Exchange, as well as operational improvement initiatives and group-wide systems implementations. In addition to overseeing a large operational team and the firm’s treasury and finance functions, he was a member of the board of Benfield’s principal operating company.
“Charlie has an outstanding depth and breadth of hands-on industry expertise that we will draw on as we continue to expand our operations, increase our organizational effectiveness and extend our client delivery capabilities,” Spiller noted.
