Transatlantic Holdings, Inc. announced that Mr. Ian Hugh Chippendale has been elected to its Board of Directors at its Annual Meeting of Stockholders. He recently retired as Chairman of RBS Insurance, a division of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group.
Chippendale has been a leading force in moving RBS into the U.K. insurance market. He served as Chief Executive of Direct Line Group Limited, an RBS affiliate, which is a major player in the UK auto insurance market and the biggest on-line writer.
Prior to joining Direct Line in 1996, he served as Chief Executive of Privilege Insurance and Chairman of the Insurance Division of Provident Financial Limited. He currently serves as non-executive director for Thus Group plc and Homeserve plc.
Martin J. Sullivan, Transatlantic’s Chairman, who also heads AIG, which owns 59.3 percent of Transatlantic’s shares, said how pleased he was that Chippendale had agreed to join the Board. He singled out the “breadth of his international insurance and business expertise,” as being of “great benefit” to Transatlantic
