AIG WorldSource ® Expands Middle East Medical Coverage

AIG WorldSource ®, a division of the property and casualty insurance subsidiaries of the American International Group, announced that the medical network established by the AIG Companies ® in the Middle East region for injuries arising under Defense Base Act (DBA) insurance policies have been expanded to include a wide range of hospital, medical and related services in Iraq, Bahrain and Qatar.

Christopher L. Sparro, President, AIG WorldSource, noted that these “locations join our already established network of medical facilities throughout the Middle East region and strengthen our ability to respond to the needs of our government contractor insureds in an effective and timely manner.”

The expanded services will include: “air and ground transportation, hotel facilities for those receiving out-patient care and assistance with necessary customs and immigration matters as it relates to travel for medical treatment,” said the bulletin. “The AIG Companies utilize medical facilities in Jordan, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Turkey and Kuwait. In addition, dedicated DBA claims offices are located in UAE and Turkey and dedicated DBA claims resources are located in India and the UK.”

AIG also noted that DBA coverage is a “federally mandated workers’ compensation coverage that protects U.S., third country and local country nationals working for companies contracted or sub-contracted by the U.S. government for work overseas. The AIG Companies have offered DBA insurance for nearly 50 years.
