Beale Joins Zurich as Merger/Acquisition-Transformation Management Head

November 9, 2007

Zurich Financial Services Group announced that Inga Beale (44) will join the company as Head of Organizational Transformation Management and Mergers & Acquisitions as of January 1, 2008.

She will also become a member of the Group Management Board and will oversee the Group’s operational improvement program “The Zurich Way.” Beale takes over from Franz Wipfli, “who,” Zurich said, “after more than 25 years of dedicated service to Zurich, its employees, its shareholders and its customers has elected early retirement.”

Zurich noted that Beale has more than 20 years of “professional experience in the insurance industry.” She was most recently the CEO of Swiss-based reinsurer Converium. She also held successive leadership posts within the insurance and reinsurance operations of General Electric.

In a sense Inga Beale is coming home. Converium, the company she headed before its merger with France’s SCOR Group, was the name given to Zurich’s reinsurance units when they were spun off from the company in Sept. 2001. She deservedly received a great deal of credit for guiding Converium through some rough times (See IJ web site Sept. 20, 2004).

“At a time when the insurance industry is going through the challenges of a profound operational transformation, we are excited that someone of Inga’s proven abilities is joining Zurich”, remarked James J. Schiro, Zurich’s CEO. “I am confident that she will successfully build on the remarkable success achieved by Franz.”

Schiro also noted that Wipfli’s “passion and energy will be missed. He has had a dramatic impact on Zurich’s successful transformation, and we wish him and his family the best of luck in retirement.”
