Lloyd’s Market Association Appoints Hurst-Bannister as Chairman

May 28, 2010

Barnabas Hurst-Bannister, Chairman of Travelers Syndicate Management Limited, has been elected Chairman of the Lloyd’s Market Association (LMA), which represents the interests of the Lloyd’s underwriting community.

He succeeds Paul Jardine, Chief Operating Officer of Catlin Group Limited, who has stepped down from the Board after 7 years, having served the last 3 years as Chairman.

The following persons have also been elected as members of the LMA Board: David Ibeson, Chief Executive Officer of Catlin Underwriting Agencies Limited; David Harris, Managing Director of Amlin Underwriting Limited; and Bob Stuchbery, Chief Executive of Chaucer Holdings PLC. Managing agents representing 86 percent of Lloyd’s gross premium income voted in the election.

Hurst-Bannister commented: “Continuing business process improvements, Solvency II and the Claims Transformation Project are just some of the issues we are helping market practitioners prepare for. During my tenure as Chairman, the LMA will continue to represent the interests of underwriters in the many issues central to achieving a profitable and appropriately regulated market.”

The bulletin also noted that he will “continue in his role as Chairman of the London Market Group, formed to maintain and enhance London’s position in the international insurance market.

David Gittings, Chief Executive of the LMA, added: “Under Paul’s stewardship the LMA has made significant progress and I would like to thank him for his contribution. We welcome Barnabas who has helped lead essential developments in the London Market and the experience he brings is invaluable. I look forward to working with both Barnabas and Bob, in their new roles as Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the LMA.”
