Zurich Financial Services Group announced key appointments within its General Insurance (GI) segment, which, it said, were “related to the ongoing review of the GI business, which is part of a Group-wide initiative to clarify accountability, focus on responsibility and reduce complexity.
“As announced earlier this year, further information on the new GI structure and strategy will be communicated to the market on December 2 at Zurich’s next Investors’ Day.”
Zurich listed the new executive assignments by region as follows:
• CEO Global Corporate, Mario Vitale
• CEO North America Commercial, Mike Foley
• CEO Europe, Patrick Manley (*effective January 1, 2011)
• CEO Latin America, Peter Rebrin
• CEO Asia-Pacific, Johnny Chen
• CEO Middle East & Africa, Saad Mered
The bulletin added that the appointments, except as noted, are effective immediately, and that all of the new CEO’s will “report to Mario Greco, CEO General Insurance. Where required, appointments are subject to regulatory approval.”
Zurich appended the following brief biographies of the new CEO’s as follows:
CEO Global Corporate
Mario P. Vitale (born 1955, US citizen) has been a member of the Group Management Board of Zurich Financial Services Group and CEO Global Corporate since January 2009. He joined Zurich in October 2006. He continues to be based in New York.
CEO North America Commercial
Mike Foley (born 1962, US citizen) has been a member of the Group Executive Committee and CEO North America Commercial of Zurich Financial Services Group since January 2008. He joined Zurich in September 2006. He continues to be based in Schaumburg, Ill.
CEO Europe – effective January 1, 2011
Patrick Manley (born 1961, Irish citizen) has been CEO of Zurich Ireland since January 2007. He joined Zurich in August 1997 as Marketing Manager of Eagle Star Insurance, a position he held until April 2000. From May 2000 until April 2004 he was General Manager Personal Insurances & Marketing, and from May 2004 until August 2005 and Director of Eagle Star Insurance’s Personal Insurance Division. Before he assumed his current position as CEO of Zurich Ireland he was Head of Distribution for Zurich Ireland. He continues to be based in Dublin, Ireland. He holds a post-graduate degree in Business Strategy from the Irish Management Institute at Trinity College.
CEO Latin America
Peter Rebrin (born 1963, Brazilian citizen) has been CEO for Zurich Latin America since October 2009. Mr. Rebrin joined Zurich in 1999 and since then held various international and Latin American leadership positions. He continues to be based in Miami, Florida.
CEO Asia-Pacific
Johnny Chen (born 1959, US Citizen) has been CEO Greater China since March 2005 when he joined Zurich. Mr. Chen continues to be based in Hong Kong.
CEO Middle-East & Africa
Saad Mered (born 1967, US citizen) has been CEO Middle East since January 2009 when he joined Zurich. Mr. Mered continues to be based in Dubai.
