UK’s Sterling Offers Free Wedding Coverage to Mark Royal Wedding

April 18, 2011

London-based Sterling Insurance Company announced that it “will be providing free wedding insurance protection [on certain conditions] to celebrate the royal wedding on April 29th.

“The free cover will include cancellation cover of up to £20,000 [$32,528] and re-arrangement cover of £15,000 [$24,396]. In addition, cake and flowers are covered for up to £5,000 [$8,132], while cars and transport carry £3,000 [$4,878] of cover.”

Sterling added that the “free cover is available on request as an extension to any new Executive Home or Executive Plus policy beginning in April, May and June 2011.”

David Sweeney, director of commercial and personal lines at Sterling, noted: “The royal wedding is a wonderful occasion for the country and an opportunity for everyone to celebrate. We thought it was right to mark the occasion by reminding other happy couples that the cost associated with weddings can carry a risk of cancellation or other problems. It is wise for couples to protect themselves against these risks.”

The bulletin also pointed out that wedding costs are rising in the UK. It noted that “since the last royal wedding of the Earl and Countess of Wessex on June 19, 1999, the cost of the average British wedding has more than doubled.”

Sweeney added: “This is a detailed and thoroughly researched product which may also be used to protect against individual failures during a wedding, such as a problem with the wedding cake or flowers. All these covers can help ensure that a couple’s special occasion is not blighted financially when all does not go according to plan.”

The policy also includes the cost of photographing or videoing the wedding again (cover up to £3,500 [$5,691]), failure of suppliers (up to £10,000 [$16,260]), wedding stationery (up to £1,500 |$2,439]) and public liability (up to £2.5 million [$4.065 million]). Options to upgrade cover to include wider levels of protection are available for an additional premium.”
