London-based Sciemus, an analytics and modeling company that services the insurance and financial markets, announced the appointment of insurance industry veteran Dennis Mahoney as Chairman of the company.
The bulletin added that he “will be more than just a figurehead at Sciemus. He will be a central figure in our team, whose knowledge and contacts will help drive our vision to make Sciemus the market leader in our field.”
Mahoney is the former Chairman of Aon Group. He took over as Chairman of Sciemus’ Board, effective 28th of November, 2011, and will also become an investor in the company.
Sciemus, which is also a specialty managing general agency, noted that it “has shown a growth of 970 percent in net revenue in the past five years, and counts among its blue chip insurance clients Ascot, Montpelier Re, Ecclesiastical and RLI. Mahoney will help establish Sciemus as a global player and optimize the value of the company and its products.”
The company’s founder and CEO Andre Finn welcomed Mahoney to Sciemus, and cited his “stellar career as a global leader in the insurance and reinsurance markets and his knowledge and experience” as being “absolutely vital in helping Sciemus to grow further in these sectors.”
Mahoney added that he had met Finn “when he set up the business originally, and I feel very privileged to be allowed to invest in the company and to join it. Sciemus offers something unique, and I am looking forward to helping a company that has not only vision, but has the capability to change the way the markets operate.”
Mahoney was named Chairman of Aon Global in 2007 and served in this position until his retirement in May 2009. He previously, he served as Chairman and CEO of Aon Limited, a division of Aon Corporation, and was responsible for the overall coordination of all the Aon operations located in the UK. In addition to his company responsibilities, in 1996, Mr. Mahoney was elected as the first Chairman of the World Insurance Network (WIN).
He also served as a Deputy Chairman of Lloyd’s Insurance Broking Committee for many years and was a past President of the Insurance Institute of London. Mahoney was also named as Chairman of Troika Insurance (the company established by the UK Government after the World Trade Center attacks to provide third party war and terrorism cover for passenger airlines).
