Senior Reinsurance Execs to Join Q-Re in Establishing ‘Global Franchise’

Q-Re, a subsidiary of Qatar Insurance Company (QIC), headquartered in Doha, Qatar, announced additions to a team of senior reinsurance underwriters and professionals who “will drive the establishment of the company’s future franchise as a global reinsurer writing all major property, casualty and specialty lines of business.” They will join Q-Re as soon as they have completed their contractual obligations with their previous employers.

Q-Re named the following individuals, as the core team that would be in charge of the company’s future underwriting, claims and risk management: Gunther Saacke, Willi Schuerch, Alain Chiolero, Manfred Dennler, Peter Frei, Johannes Goebel, Stefano Lorenzini and Karl J. Schneider.

It also said their addition would “further add to the skill-base already taken on board with the recruitment of Peter Bitterlin, Mark Cockroft, Graham Loughlin, Luke Roden, Alan Tomlinson and RobLee Womack, who recently joined Q-Re as senior reinsurance professionals.”

Khalifa Abdulla Turki Al Subaey, Group President and CEO of QIC, commented: “We are pleased that these outstanding professionals have chosen to join Q-Re. Their technical expertise will be instrumental in establishing Q-Re’s global franchise. In this endeavor, Q-Re will benefit from QIC’s strong and growing capital base and develop into a global reinsurer, writing all major property, casualty and specialty lines of business.”

Q-Re’s CEO Ewen McRobbie added: “We are looking forward to working with our new colleagues. Their widely recognized experience and expertise will boost Q-Re’s talent base and accelerate the execution of our strategic objectives.”

As noted above, Q-Re is a subsidiary of QIC, headquartered in Doha, Qatar, and regulated by the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority (QFCRA). The bulletin noted that the reinsurer is “backed by a full parental guarantee by QIC which is capitalized at approximately US$1 billion, Q-Re is rated ‘A’ by Standard & Poor’s. The company recently opened a branch office in Zurich and a representative office in London.”
