UK’s BMS Names Darling New Group Corporate Governance Director

BMS Associates Limited, the independent specialist insurance group, has appointed Angela Darling as its new Group Corporate Governance Director with effect from early March.

The newly created post “will bring together the Group’s risk management, compliance, corporate governance, corporate legal and company secretariat functions under one executive leader,” said the announcement. Darling will report directly to group CEO Dane Douetil, and will join the Company’s Group Executive Committee.

Darling has 20 years of experience as a regulatory specialist providing regulatory and operational advice across a wide range of businesses, particularly in the insurance sector. She has extensive knowledge of the London market, including Lloyd’s – where she held a number of roles within the regulatory department.

She has worked in two Lloyd’s Syndicates as an Underwriter and Claims Director, amongst other roles. Previous experience also includes Head of Policy at the General Insurance Standards Council and a consultant at KMPG leading their regulatory advisory service and claims practice.

Darling is a fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), a former member of its Policy Standards Board and a current member of its Disciplinary Committee.

In welcoming Darling to the new post Douetil noted her” caliber and experience,” indicating that BMS anticipates “significant growth across our diversified portfolio of businesses, building on a successful trading year in 2013 and capitalizing on significant investments across the Group.”

He also noted that “Pioneer Underwriting, following its recent hires of new underwriting teams, will more than double its size in 2014, whilst our broking businesses continue to develop their portfolios across the world. Angela will play an instrumental role in helping us continue to build our business, bringing with her a deep understanding of our sector.”
