Cooper Gay Swett & Crawford Appoints Padilla Gen’l Manager-Parts of Lat. Am.

Independent wholesale broker Cooper Gay Swett & Crawford (CGSC) has appointed Alejandro Padilla as General Manager and Head of Broking for Mexico, Central America, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, effective August 16, 2015.

He will join CGSC from Swiss Re, and will lead the operation, focusing “on expansion and acquisition of new businesses, recruiting more top producers and bringing service excellence to CGSC’s reinsurance brokerage and wholesale clients. Padilla will report to Ulisses Soares, CEO of Latin America, and Francisco Martinez, Chairman of CGSC’s Mexican operations,” said the announcement.

Padilla is a native of Mexico, and has an extensive background in reinsurance. He studied industrial engineering at Universidad Ibero-americana and received a Masters in Finance from ITESM, which enabled him to begin his insurance career at P&C Broker, Reinmex. Padilla later assumed leadership roles with other brokers, including Guy Carpenter and previously, CGSC. Padilla has also worked for JP Morgan, ING Insurance Company and, more recently, was Head of Reinsurance for North LATAM and President of Swiss Brokers Mexico.

Soares expressed his confidence in Padilla’s “broad experience in the reinsurance industry, together with his exceptional leadership and focus on the client;” adding that he will give “a great contribution to the development of our businesses in Mexico, Central America, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. His return to our business is welcome and will considerably strengthen our team in this region.”

Padilla said he is “very much looking forward to returning to the most successful independent reinsurance broker, leading a strong team at CGSC Mexico and supporting the development of CGSC in the Latin American region.” He also indicated that “we have significant opportunities to explore and plan to grow our business profitably, while continuing to provide excellent service to our clients.”
