Aspen Insurance Holdings Ltd.announced that its reinsurance segment, Aspen Re has appointed Hugo A. Cardona as managing director for Latin America and Caribbean.
Cardona will join Aspen on May 2 from Odyssey Reinsurance Co. where he was chief underwriting officer and senior vice president, Latin America, Brazil & Caribbean.
He succeeds Peter Emblin who will continue in his roles as managing director, Middle East & Africa and head of Casualty Reinsurance, Aspen Re.
Cardona has nearly 30 years’ experience in the industry and has worked in a variety of senior roles in the region. Prior to joining Odyssey, he was chief operating officer for Island Heritage Insurance Group, based in the Cayman Islands. He also held senior roles at Aon Benfield, Partner Reinsurance Co., Reliance National Insurance Co., and ACE Group.

His knowledge and experience across the region will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our presence there,” said Stephen Postlewhite, chief executive officer, Aspen Re.
“Peter Emblin has done an outstanding job establishing and growing our business in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Middle East and Africa is a key strategic priority for us and Peter will focus on this area of our business moving forward as we expand our presence there, through our newly established Dubai office,” he added.
