June 6, 2001

Bankers Insurance Group’s consumer information website, www.floodfacts.com, took the top award for websites in the Public Awareness Materials Contest at the recent National Flood Conference in Minneapolis.

The annual awards competition recognizes outstanding contributions to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). This year’s conference drew about 400 participants representing the insurance industry and other NFIP partners.

The colorful “Flood Facts” site features eye-catching graphics and streamlined navigation to make accessing information fast and easy for the user. The site’s components include:

–Storm Season Information Center: In-depth consumer information on issues such as flood preparedness and flood safety, along with specialized resources for the news media.

–Get the Facts: The latest information about flood risks and flood insurance coverage. The section includes an extensive Q&A section and describes various types of flood insurance available.

–Flood Zone Kids: Interactive games and puzzles to teach youngsters about floods.

The Public Awareness Materials competition has four categories: advertising materials, training materials, brochures, and websites. Winners are selected through voting by the conference participants. An earlier version of the Flood Facts website won the first-place spot at the 1999 Conference.

Bankers Insurance Group is an insurance and financial services holding company based in St. Petersburg, Florida. The company is the nation’s largest provider of federal flood insurance written through independent agents.
