Wife of Convicted Former Ohio Agent told She Will Lose License

March 4, 2002

Ohio Department of Insurance Director Lee Covington notified Connie Houser, wife of former insurance agent Harry D. Houser Sr. of Beverly, Ohio, that he intends to revoke her license as an insurance agent.

According to the insurance department, Houser worked with her husband at HCH Insurance Agency and has been accused of issuing a receipt for a $100,000 premium payment for an annuity but, individually or in conjunction with HCH, failed to obtain the annuity or return the premium payment. She is also accused of issuing fictitious annuity statements and monthly interest payments to clients and is accused of aiding and abetting Harry D. Houser Sr. and HCH in committing unfair and deceptive trade practices.

Mr. Houser signed a consent order agreeing to the revocation of his insurance license in Sept. 2001 and was convicted and sentenced to five years in prison for collecting approximately $350,000 in premiums for annuities purportedly issued by American Life and Casualty Insurance Company. Mr. Houser allegedly never obtained the annuity or returned the premiums.

Mrs. Houser may request a hearing, a request that must be received by the Department of Insurance within 30 days of the mailing of the Notice of Opportunity for Hearing.

If she does not request a hearing in a timely manner, the department will issue an order revoking her license.
