Miller Brewing Co.’s Trenton, Ohio brewery was the only Governor’s Excellence in Workers’ Compensation Award winner for self-insuring employers who insure nearly 40 percent of Ohio’s workforce.
The state’s Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, which presented the award, stated that the brewery is one of six Ohio businesses honored this year with the Governor’s Excellence in Workers’ Compensation award for providing safe workplaces for their employees, while supporting their injured workers with return to work and other claims-management strategies.
Trenton Brewery’s claim frequency rate has been reduced by 35 percent from 1999 to 2002. Meanwhile, claim severity has fallen dramatically since 2000. In 2000, the plant experienced 370 days of lost time due to injuries compared to 22 days, thus far in the current year. Trenton Brewery’s transitional work program has enabled 99 percent of its participants to return to productive work within the plant.
This fall BWC will offer Workers’ Compensation University sessions in seven cities around Ohio. Classes will cover how to implement safety strategies, ways to control costs, increase workplace safety, and opportunities to learn more about Ohio’s workers’ comp system.
