Minnesota Commerce Commissioner Jim Bernstein has charged United American Insurance Company (UAIC) of Delaware with numerous alleged violations of insurance law pertaining to the sale and marketing of Medicare Supplement policies to hundreds of Minnesota seniors. UAIC and several of its agents potentially face felony criminal charges and substantial civil and regulatory penalties including license revocation.
Among the alleged violations are failure to leave an application with the applicant, using unapproved applications, failure to provide various notices and disclosures, and failure to train its agents.
“It’s appalling when any insurance company attempts to increase corporate profits by taking advantage of Minnesota seniors.” Bernstein said. “All Minnesota seniors should seek advice from Senior LinkAge Line, a relative, or other unbiased source before purchasing a Medicare Supplement policy. Any reputable insurance agent won’t pressure you or use deceptive tactics.”
