Kan. Home and Auto Insurance Guides Available From Insurance Department

Two new handbooks and shoppers’ guides designed to assist consumers with questions about homeowners and auto insurance are now available from the Kansas Insurance Department.

The handbooks outline coverage requirements in Kansas and explain how premium charges are determined. They also tell consumers how to file a claim and how to terminate an insurance policy. The homeowners shopper’s guide compares insurance rates by fire protection classification and region. The auto shopper’s guide compares insurance rates by driver age and region.

Homeowners insurance is written by about 150 authorized insurance companies in Kansas. The homeowners shopper’s guide provides comparisons of premium charges from 26 insurance companies comprising approximately the top 80 percent of volume writers in Kansas.

About 200 insurance companies in Kansas write personal automobile insurance. The auto shopper’s guide compares the premium charges for the top 25 volume writer private insurance companies, which represents approximately 80 percent of the personal automobile insurance written in Kansas.

All the new publications are free and available by calling the Kansas Insurance Department’s Consumer Hotline at (800) 432-2484. The information and rate comparison guide are also available on the department’s Web site.
