Powell, Ridge and Oxley to Address PCI Annual Meeting this October in Chicago

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell, former Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge, and U.S. Representative Mike Oxley (R – Ohio), will be the featured speakers at the 2005 Property Casualty Insurers Association of America’s (PCI) Annual Meeting, scheduled for Oct. 23-26 in Chicago.

“We are pleased to be able to offer our members and colleagues in the industry the chance to hear from individuals who play an important role in shaping the public policy that affects the world, the nation, and our industry,” said Ernie Csiszar, PCI president and CEO. “This lineup of speakers, combined with the opportunity to conduct business with reinsurers from around the world, will make the 2005 PCI meeting one of the most important industry meetings for CEOs of U.S. property/casualty insurers.”

Powell, one of the most recognized, respected, and influential statesmen in the United States will deliver the keynote address entitled, “Diplomacy: Persuasion, Trust and Values,” on Tuesday, Oct. 25. Ridge, the nation’s first Homeland Security director, will deliver the keynote address, entitled, “Homeland Security: More Than Just a Cabinet Agency,” on Monday, Oct. 24.

Rep. Oxley will kick off the meeting with an opening address earlier on the morning of Oct. 24. Oxley is the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, the congressional committee that is responsible for insurance issues. Oxley and his committee will play a pivotal role in shaping legislation that affects property/casualty insurers including bills on issues such as regulatory modernization and terrorism insurance.

“Rep. Oxley’s participation in our Annual Meeting will give members the chance to have their views on the most important issues facing their companies heard by an individual who has a direct impact in crafting legislation that addresses those issues,” said Csiszar.

Other speakers at the 2005 Annual Meeting include Maine Insurance Superintendent Alessandro Iuppa and Jorge Mas Canosa, Jr., chairman of MasTec Corporation. The meeting will also feature of panel presentation featuring property/casualty and reinsurer CEOs, as well as a host of special events including an exclusive performance by Chicago’s renowned Second City comedy troupe.
