The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration will begin a series of 13 public meetings over the next seven weeks to discuss the issue of uninsured Indiana residents.
The meetings will begin the first week of May with sessions in Indianapolis and Gary and are open to the public. They continue through a June 6 meeting in Terre Haute. FSSA Secretary Mitch Roob will lead them.
“FSSA has been approached by legislators and community leaders to begin a public discussion about the issue of health care affordability and quality, particularly for low-income and uninsured Hoosiers,” Roob said in a prepared statement as his agency announced the meeting schedule.
A growing number of Indiana residents go without health insurance for a variety of reasons, FSSA said. Expense was listed by the agency as one of those reasons. Last year, each Indiana family with health insurance paid an additional $953 in premiums to help cover the costs of providing care to the uninsured.
