Mercator Risk Adds Broker Duo to Lead Midwest Property Practice

June 5, 2006

New York-based Mercator Risk Services, an independent wholesale insurance broker, has added two key members to its growing Midwest Property Practice.

Jason Tegan and Libby Wakolbinger have joined Mercator’s Chicago office after most recently working together at Swett & Crawford. Tegan has been appointed senior vice president of the firm and will lead Mercator’s regional property practice in the Midwest. Wakolbinger has been appointed broker.

With over 12 years in the insurance industry, Tegan was a property broker for Swett & Crawford, responsible for middle market and national accounts, specializing in the placement of layered property DIC/named perils & builders risk programs. Before entering the wholesale insurance sector, Tegan worked as an underwriter for K&K Insurance Group. Similarly, Wakolbinger worked for Swett & Crawford handling placements of property coverage.

“Jason’s depth of property experience and reputation in the market along with Libby’s knowledge of the regional marketplace allow us to hit the ground running in the Midwest,” said J.C. Sparling, executive vice president of Mercator. “Retail brokers in the region already know and trust Jason and Libby for their property specialization, advisory expertise and service commitment; bonds that will only grow stronger as they deliver Mercator’s innovative wholesale solutions. No doubt, we have great confidence in Jason’s ability to build and lead our Property practice in the Midwest.”

Mercator identifies itself as an independent insurance wholesaler based in New York. Currently building operations throughout the U.S., Mercator provides wholesale and specialty insurance solutions for mid- to large-sized retail insurance brokers through an innovative team-based business model for wholesale insurance placements. The model is built around broker specialization, customer service and transparency, providing customers superior solutions by rewarding teamwork and collaboration.
