Iowa School Officials Given $2 Million from EMC Insurance

Aplington-Parkersburg officials were given an early payment of $2 million by EMC Insurance Companies on June 6 to help the school district take care of immediate needs.

The high school, which was destroyed by the tornado that hit Parkersburg on May 25, was insured by EMC. Aplington-Parkersburg Superintendent Jon Thompson says the school will eventually recoup its remaining losses.

The district plans to rebuild the high school, a project estimated to cost $14 million. Thompson said the district also needs to cover costs associated with relocating and holding classes and activities until the new building is ready.
