A Kansas City-area state House member who has served as the chairman of the House Insurance Policy Committee is resigning his seat in Missouri’s Legislature.
Republican Brian Yates, of Lee’s Summit, said the resignation is effective Dec. 1.
He was first elected in 2002 and could not have run for re-election next year because of term limits.
The 34-year-old Yates said in a news release that he wants to spend more time with his wife and young son. He also said he wanted to give his successor an advantage by having more seniority than other incoming new lawmakers.
Yates is the sixth state lawmaker to resign this year, and the fifth from the House.
