The family of a man who resided in a Grand Forks nursing home until he died in January is suing the elder care facility in federal court.
The complaint against Valley Homes and Services accuses Valley Eldercare Center of negligence in its care and treatment of Stanley Byzewski, who was admitted to the center in late 2011.
The suit alleges numerous incidents of mistreatment. It says Byzewski fell three times and suffered injuries that ultimately contributed to his death.
Byzewski’s family is seeking $500,000, including $250,000 in punitive damages.
Valley Homes and Services deny the allegations and say the facility is not responsible for Byzewski’s injuries.
Valley says the Byzewski family claim for punitive damages is frivolous and is asking a judge to throw out the lawsuit.
