January 9, 2014

Zurich North America announced that Taffy Jo Mayers, regional sales director for the Midwest region, has been accepted as a fellow for World Business Chicago’s Plan for Economic Growth and Jobs.

The Plan is a framework for future economic growth and job creation in Chicago and the surrounding region.

Mayers is currently in the midst of a four-month commitment working with World Business Chicago (WBC) to create smart communities throughout the city, enhancing technology and overall digital inclusion.

The initiative aims to define what a smart community will look like, analyze the barriers preventing communities from participating in the digital ecosystem, and eventually connect everyone in Chicago who wants to be connected to the digital realm.

The City of Chicago seeks to expand public access to technology across Chicago and is pursuing digital excellence initiatives that encourage residents, businesses and communities to participate fully in 21st century online economic and social spheres. The goal is to improve the overall quality of life for all individuals through access to technology.

Mayers was recommended by Zurich senior leadership in part for her ability to utilize performance metrics and achievements to develop successful strategies and goals for the organization, as well as for her passion and drive to help and inspire those less fortunate.

This is the third class of fellows for the Plan. Zurich is one of several companies providing support to the program. Since the inception of the fellowship program, additional companies that have seconded fellows include A.T. Kearney, CohnReznick, Comcast, Coyote Logistics, Deloitte LLP, DeVry Inc., Ernst & Young LLP, KPMG, Mesirow Financial, The PrivateBank, United Airlines, and W.W. Grainger.

Zurich also provided an employee to participate in the inaugural class last year.
