Capping the parents’ liability at $300,000 does not guarantee they will have the same limit on their family auto policy. What happens when the young driver is using a company vehicle instead of a family car? This law just reinforces the idea that children do not have to be responsible for their actions.

Company gets sued for being the owner of the car, parent loses job for violating company policy by letting their kid drive the car. Kid is grounded for life and loses their Xbox. No late night Call of Duty means he will be uncool at school, grows up and becomes right wing radio talk show host.

Industry supported or not, that’s just bad legislation.
