Ohio Manufacturer Faces $134K in Fines for Safety Violations

May 14, 2015

A federal agency says a central Ohio rubber-hose manufacturer accused of 11 worker safety violations is facing proposed penalties of $134,000.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration says HBD/Thermoid Inc., based in Bellefontaine, puts workers at risk of serious injuries by ignoring safety rules for industrial machines.

The agency says the company must put required safety guards on large industrial machines used to cut and manufacturer rubber hoses at its plants in Ohio, California, Kansas, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

OSHA says the citations followed an October 2014 inspection at the company’s Bellefontaine facility after the death of a worker caught in an industrial machine at its Salisbury, N.C., plant in May 2014.
