Feds Allege More Safety Violations at Ashley Furniture Factory in Wisconsin

July 23, 2015

A federal safety agency is accusing Ashley Furniture Industries Inc. of more safety violations at its factory in Arcadia, Wis.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration says a 56-year-old employee lost his right ring finger after a March 11 accident. The accident happened on a machine the agency had cited as unsafe just one month earlier.

OSHA alleges the company did not report the injury as required. An OSHA spokeswoman tells the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the agency learned of the injury from a family member of the victim.

Ashley Furniture already is facing a possible $1.7 million fine for alleged safety violations. The latest citations carry proposed fines totaling $83,200.

Ashley is contesting the earlier citations. In a statement, the company says it “strongly disputes” the agency’s allegations.
