Kansas Tornado Damages 10 Homes, Destroys Trailer

April 27, 2016

The National Weather Service is surveying damage from a northern Kansas tornado that left two people with minor injuries, damaged about 10 homes and destroyed a trailer.

National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Barjenbruch says the tornado hit at night on April 24 just north of the town of Belleville and traveled northeast, causing damage in the town of Munden.

Republic County emergency management director Raymond Raney says the two people who were injured suffered cuts from broken glass when the storm blew debris into their car. Home damage in the county largely involved busted roofs and windows.

The storm also downed power lines, causing outages.

Barjenbruch says winds of up to 80 mph were reported in Pottawatomie and Nemaha counties. There also were several reports of baseball-size hail in Salina and Ottawa counties.
