As someone that reads an insurance trade journal I’d think you’d be a little more curious on the legal/liability consequences. The city councilman doesn’t even know these guys role or authority level so calling them “cops” is a stretch. Its not a small difference and might end up costing the city a lot of money.
There is certainly plenty of blame to go around for everyone on this incident. At the end of the day United Airlines will pay out significant amounts for a bad decision and the city of Chicago will pay for the assault and battery/excessive use of force.
Should the passenger have complied with the direction certainly and that will factor into the juries decision but remember this is Chicago home of stupid jury decisions so I am not counting on to much blame being accessed to the passenger. The video evidence and poor decisions by those in authority will kill the defense before it even starts.
This is probably the best time to fly United. They will be doing everything they can to earn market share back after this debacle. You can bet they won’t forcefully drag another passenger off. Honestly, consumers can exploit this situation. Another incident like this one and they will probably be done.
Good point, Jocomo, I wonder if they’ll start reducing rates to try and win consumers back. I am looking to take a flight soon, I’ll have to monitor them accordingly.

I am telling you that you need to go jump in the lake! You should!

I hear they are flying to Caracas. Is that where you are going?
