W. R. Berkley Corporation, a holding company based in Greenwich, Conn., announced it will list its common stock on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) beginning May 9, 2001, under the ticker symbol “BER”. The W. R. Berkley Corp., through its subsidiaries, operates in five segments of the property/casualty insurance industry: specialty lines of insurance; alternative markets; reinsurance; regional property casualty insurance; and international.
Currently the common stock is traded on the Nasdaq National Market under the ticker symbol “BKLY”. W.R. Berkley Corporation has been listed on Nasdaq since its initial public offering in 1973. Concurrent with the NYSE listing, the company’s shares will be withdrawn from the Nasdaq.
The corporation’s Chairman and CEO, William R. Berkley, stated that by moving to the world’s most prestigious stock exchange, the company will broaden its investor base and provide the advantages of the NYSE to its shareholders.
