Majority of Aon Employees Safe, Company Reports

“The vast majority of our 1,100 employees who worked in the World Trade Center have been reported as safe,” Stephen Ban, senior vice president of marketing/communications in Chicago, told Insurance Journal. “We have contacted nearly all of the employees who had been traveling to New York on business-they are safe, none were on the hijacked planes. We are working around the clock to locate every one of our employees.”

Ban said that it is much too early to assess physical damage, but that efforts at recovery were beginning. “Obviously we have a team of people working on business resumption and recreation of all the computer files. That will be a high priority, but currently our priority is ensuring that our employees are safe.” Ban said that Chicago offices were open on Wednesday, “but we left it up to the discretion of our employees as to whether they would come to work or not. We have assigned crisis counselors to all of our global employees via toll free numbers and are providing around-the-clock services for our employees.”

Aon Corporation has 50,000 employees, of which approximately 1,100 were located in Two World Trade Center, on Floor # 92, and # 98-105, as well as in other buildings in Lower Manhattan.

Aon’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Patrick G. Ryan reiterated that the company’s primary focus “continues to be on our employees and their families.We will provide whatever assistance we can to help them through this difficult period.”

Aon has initiated its disaster recovery plans and will be providing additional information on alternative locations for operations as that information becomes available. Information will be posted on Aon’s website (www.aon.com) and provided through the hotline numbers listed below.
