International Marine Insurance Services (IMIS) and Markel American Insurance Company have partnered to establish The JacklineSM Insurance Program for world cruisers. Much like the safety gear after which it is named, this insurance program is designed with the intent of “allowing you the freedom to roam while keeping you secure.”
Yachts cruising throughout the world will be eligible for insurance coverage under this program. IMIS will be administering the program on behalf of the U.S. insurer Markel American Insurance Company which is a subsidiary of Markel Corporation rated ‘A’ by A.M. Best Co. Markel Corporation markets and underwrites specialty insurance products and programs to a variety of niche markets.
Markel American president and COO, Timberlee Grove noted, “Markel is committed to the marine insurance industry and excited to expand our coverage to include world-wide cruisers through IMIS.”
IMIS is a marine insurance brokerage established in 1987 by Al and Gary Golden.
A Jackline policy will provide ‘all risks’ coverage on a ‘replacement cost’ basis up to an ‘agreed value’ and will provide claim service. Doublehanded cruisers in particular have reportedly faced difficulties in obtaining coverage in the past, but will now find a Jackline policy readily available. A Jackline policy can also provide coverage for personal liability and personal property to fill the gaps in coverage left when cruisers have no homeowners policy.
