The Hartford’s Life Operations Creates Two New Units

The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. announced that its life operations has created two new business groups — U.S. Wealth Management and International Wealth Management and Group Benefits to drive growth.

John Walters has been appointed president of the U.S. Wealth Management Group. The Investment Products Division (IPD), the Individual Life Division (ILD) and Woodbury Financial Services, The Hartford’s affiliated broker- dealer, will form the U.S. Wealth Management Group. Walters was previously the executive vice president for IPD.

Lizabeth Zlatkus has been appointed president of International Wealth Management and Group Benefits. Zlatkus will continue to serve as chief financial officer of Hartford Life until a replacement is found.

The two new business groups will report to Hartford Life President and Chief Operating Officer Tom Marra.

“This is an exciting time for Hartford Life,” said Marra. “Our markets are changing in response to demographic changes, increasing the opportunities to respond to customer needs for a wide range of financial solutions. By focusing our efforts on wealth management and asset protection, we can take advantage of the opportunities offered by these changes and drive forward our strategy of growth and diversification.”

Walters has been executive vice president and head of the Investment Products Division since joining Hartford Life in 2000 from First Union Securities, the brokerage subsidiary of First Union Corporation. At First Union, he was responsible for brokerage product management including mutual funds, annuities, life insurance and retirement plans.

Zlatkus joined The Hartford in 1983 in the property-casualty area. She moved to Hartford Life in 1990 and held a number of positions with increasing responsibility. She joined GBD in 1996 and was promoted to executive vice president in 2000. Zlatkus was named chief financial officer in 2003 and was also given responsibility for actuarial, risk management and Hartford Life’s information technology area. During her time as CFO, Zlatkus led the development of Hartford Life’s industry-leading risk management and hedging program.
