A statement on the company Web site says the proposed settlement includes three years of credit monitoring along with identity theft insurance for those affected by the breach.

It still requires court approval.

In January, Framingham, Mass.-based TJX disclosed that computer hackers broke into its systems.

At least 45 million TJX cards were hacked.

Customers who were victims of identity theft as a result of their social security numbers being stolen in the breach will also be eligible for reimbursement.

TJX operates off-price retailers TJ Maxx and Marshalls.

President and chief executive officer Carol Meyrowitz says they "deeply regret'' any inconvenience suffered by customers.
