Liberty International Underwriters Appoints Seven New Execs

Liberty International Underwriters (LIU), a part of Liberty Mutual Group, announced the appointments of several new executives in its Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles, and New York locations. The executives bring insurance industry experience ranging from five to 30 years in five distinct product lines.

Chris Cox recently joined LIU’s Atlanta office as vice president for Excess Casualty where she handles up to $25 million in lead umbrellas and $50 million for excess layers. Her prior experience covers 25 years in the industry including senior positions at Zurich and AIG.

Michael Abdulahad is based in LIU’s Houston office as a Management Liability senior underwriter with a focus on directors and officers insurance for energy companies. Abdulahad handled multi-million dollar books of business at Travelers and Chubb prior to joining LIU.

Reed Henderson is an underwriting manager for Management Liability business out of LIU’s Los Angeles office with a focus on private equity and directors and officers insurance. Henderson moved to Los Angeles from LIU’s San Francisco office and prior to that worked at Marsh Inc.

Four other executives recently joined LIU’s U.S. headquarters in New York.

Bob Erb is executive general adjuster for Energy and Construction Claims with responsibility for managing large or complicated claims for the North America region and overseeing supervision and training for junior claim managers. Before coming to LIU, Erb spent over 30 years with Factory Mutual.

Joe Hobbs is a senior vice president and director of compliance for LIU’s operations in the United States and Latin America. Hobbs held compliance positions with AIG and Chubb before joining LIU.

Melissa Mattioli leads LIU’s recently established Employment Practices Liability (EPL) team as vice president. Mattioli has written EPL business for over a decade and was most recently with Zurich.

Susan Klein is a senior underwriter on LIU’s new EPL team. Prior to joining LIU, Klein was an underwriter at Zurich.

“Despite the market challenges, our executives’ expertise helped grow LIU’s global net written premium by 21 percent in 2007,” said David Cohen, president of LIU U.S.
