ASI Healthcare Offers Pollution Liability for Nursing Homes, Assisted Living

April 30, 2010

ASI Healthcare, a division of American Safety Insurance (ASI), now offers an optional Environmental Impairment Liability (EIL) coverage form for nursing home, assisted living and elder care facilities. The EIL form covers bodily injury to residents and the costs to clean, repair or remediate the facilities.

“Due to the compromised health of some residents, a pollution event could have a devastating impact on the well-being of the inhabitants, especially when they are living in such close quarters,” said David Stoner, vice president of Healthcare Underwriting for ASI. “Should an incident happen, families of those affected will expect to be indemnified for the injuries to their loved ones. Facility directors may be surprised to learn that their general liability policies exclude coverage for bodily injury or physical damage that results from a pollution incident.”

Coverage is offered in conjunction with ASI’s SPILL Site Pollution Impairment Legal Liability product and written on a claims-made basis for sudden, accidental and gradual pollution incidents, including coverage for mold. Limits up to $500,000/$500,000 with a $5,000 deductible are available for ASI Healthcare insured facilities. Premiums start as low as $2,500.

This form is offered on a non-admitted basis by American Safety Indemnity Company which carries an “A” Excellent rating with A.M. Best.
