If your brain falls in the forest and there is no one there to hear it, can you hear me now?

Headsets are not necessarily the answer. If it’s a blinking bluetooth, the cure may be worse than the disease, since most people are on the phone for a relatively small percentage of the day, while a bluetooth would be stuck in the ear for far longer, and it also emits radio waves. With a regular heaset, where will you hold the phone? Far away? Not likely.

Actually, there is a lot more danger of people dying from cell phone use while driving and trying to text while driving. Cell phones are an addiction/disease. The heavy users can hardly go to the bathroom without them anymore. There must be something to this. Perhaps the radio waves disturb the brain waves.

I’m no scientist, but I would think the phone would have to be away from your head in order to be safer. If it is held away or laid down, it would be safer than right up against your ear. Of course, you may not want anyone listening to your call on speaker.

From what I can tell the problem is with magnetic induction from the speaker on the phone. This has been present in phones since the beginning of the phone itself. If this is the cause, ear buds and earphones would have the same effect as would simple MP3 players…. how about a complete study instead of a study focused on a single part of the problem?

Junk science said silicone breast implants were hazaradous to your health. After the demise of several silicone companies, real science says they are safe and women are using them again.

You are right Dave. There is hardly anything we can eat, drink or do that doesn’t potentially harm us. For years, they said don’t eat eggs because of cholesterol. Then another study said it was ok and eggs were good for us as a good source of protein. Our wonderful Federal Government keeps giving grant money we don’t have to study effects of everything. I need to apply for one of these to study something and put out a report on it. I would make as much sense as some of these “scientists”.

The problem with all these studies is that anyone with a title can release a report full of conjecture and personal opinion without a peer review. If I have a degree it is assumed that I know what I am talking about…. As a heart patient I have been subjected to various results of studies by “mental midgets”, such as don’t eat butter, then don’t eat margarine, then don’t eat butter again, etc. As a result now I just ignore a lot of advice, even from my doctor, this is a result of no control on idiots.

I can see a government sponsored group on the horizon, the CPTA…. Cell Phone and Texting Anonomous (for the addicts).

I can see a group sitting in a circle all texting each other or downloading a new “app” during the meeting. These people are so wrapped up in this phenomenon they don’t know what is going on around them. It is really pretty sad. They would have major withdrawal problems if their phone was taken away from them.

Here’s a solution.. award monetary damages to any claimant who wants it… but from that point on they will have to refrain from using any form of wireless communication device or any device that emits EM radiation. No cell phone, no Bluetooth, no cordless phones in the home, no wireless networks set up in home, no WiFi devices, etc. Failure to comply with this requirement would have a penalty of triple damages to be repaid to the company.

    Any takers?

Don’t think there would be any takers. Weening them from these devices would be harder than getting dry from alcohol or cocaine addiction.

On a case specific basis, if credibile evidence meeting the Daubert requirements can be introduced, what is wrong with letting juries deciding individual cases? Isn’t that what our legal system is designed to do?

Here’s the problem. Presumably the cancer is caused by the EM radiation emitted by your cell phone correct? This is something that cannot be seen, touched, tasted, smelled or heard. To detect it requires electronic equipment.

Now think about all the sources of EM radiation that you are exposed to daily. I’ll list a few real fast, starting with the biggest.
      1) the Sun
      2) Radio signals (FM/AM/XM/CB, etc)
      3) WiFi devices (public and private, I’ve one in my home and know almost all the coffee shops provide free WiFi now)
      4) anything that runs on electricity…

Now to say just one specific item definitely caused an issue is pretty difficult, but admittedly a case could be made. However, the only way to prevent this item from causing damages is to take it away from the person using it. Willing to give up your phone to avoid cancer?

Do I think the companies lied about potential health hazards? Yes, if only by understating them. However, if anyone really thought about it, an intellegent person would have already realized that sticking a powered EM broadcast unit right next to flesh will cause some radiation damage.

I could probably go on and on about this, but I personally don’t think anyone should be able to take a case to court in regards to cancer “supposedly” caused by cell phones unless they are willing to give up a cordless phone on a permanent basis.

People are being bombarded daily by radio waves in the air. If you have satellite TV, the wave comes down from space right to your home. We cook with Microwave ovens which emit rays. Everything we do tends to harm us. Try getting someone to give all these things up. They are going to keep their cells and these other things since it is an addiction in our society.

Brain-cancer patients seek to blame their disease on something – that’s just human nature. Better to look at the trending of increased cell-phone usage and compare to the number of brain-cancer cases: if there IS more cancer, THEN seek the cause. Not to say that we all don’t contribute to our own downfall, look at the DDT and asbestos problems caused years ago… Today our skys are filled with microwave and (more) radio-wave transmissions than ever before. Are microwaves killing the bees that pollinate our flowers & crops? Maybe…!

Joe, why don’t you apply for a Federal grant to study this? Your conclusions would make as much sense as some of the so called “scientists”. I bet they would give you at least a million for doing this. The government is handing big money out for everything. They gave 1.5 million to study prostitution in China. How is this relevant to the US? Please explain.
