Some of these are unbelievable for their stupidity. I can’t believe the one on the $163 Million scam of Medicare and they get only 3 years in prison. $54 million per year is pretty good wages if they have it squirreled away somewhere.
I agree… 3 years is NOT long enough… It amazes me to see how warped a persons mind can be to even think of doing things like that. Another bad thing is that there are sooo many of them out there.
It is estimated that Medicare is ripped off for right at $100 Billion each year by unscrupulous vendors, doctors, clinics and hospitals. Politicians do nothing about this since they are on the take by these same groups of people. Lobbyists are a scourge on our society and it should be a felony for them to lobby Congress for favors.
Miami health-care executive Larry Duran orchestrated one of the largest Medicare frauds in U.S. history, submitting more than $205 million in phony claims and landing a record-breaking 50-year prison sentence for his crimes.
I’m surprised no one’s chimed in on the two convicts (yes, that’s what they are!) who killed six innocent people in order to gain financially. Three kids and their parents (presumably), and a developmentally-disabled blind man–at the hands of a church pastor, no less!
I agree three years for a multi-state multimillion dollar fraud is nowhere near long enough time, but DAMN!
I agree. How can money be more of a shock than the murders of six innocent people? Does anyone care? I told my co-workers and friends about this and the looks of shock on their faces…Just…wow…
I think a lot of America is just “all shocked out.”
A couple of ten year long wars, plus all of the failed wars at home: War On Poverty, War On Illiteracy, War On Drugs, War On Cancer, War On Personal Freedoms. The only war the feds seem to be winning is the War On Unborn Babies (millions killed each year). And my favorite: War On The Middle Class which pits the
poor and the rich against everyone in the middle.
To be fair, the above comments are on the inadequacy of the sentences for the cases where there is only monetary fraud. Since the two cases listed that involve murders resulted in one “death penalty” and one “life in prison”, it’s pretty hard to argue that there was inadequate sentencing in these cases.
What happened to “insurable interest”? How does the pastor take out $1.4M in life coverage on a disabled man to whom he is not related, and on whom he is not dependent in any way?

$163MM is a lot to keep track of. No records to follow the loot? C’mon!

Unfortunately it seems where the crime is committed may determine the length of the sentence?

If he’s developmentally disabled maybe the pastor had himself appointed as his legal guardian?
