I’m sorry, but I have worked in the service contract business for many years doing auto, light truck, and marine products. I have never seen a marine service contract that did NOT cover the items described in your article. How much did Flo pay you publish this ?

I think the point is it’s an insurance company. They provide coverage involving accidents. Mechanical breakdown or failure is not an accident and is not covered through normal insurance. But as most know these type of units fail most commonly due to poor maintenance and not from accidents. So people are getting a much needed benefit.

Correct Jacob. If the coverage is available it will probably remove a lot of conflict in the claims process.

Progressive products are very good and I write a lot of coverage with Progressive. I have a problem with your Boat Coverage that makes it hard to sell. Insureds should be able to get lower unit coverage on motors that are 10 years or newer, even if the boat is over 10 years old. The age of the boat should have nothing to do with the age of the motor. Many insureds keep their boats, but get new motors with either higher or lower horsepower, and lower unit coverage is the most important coverage to them. I have a 2001 Lund boat and the motor got tired so I traded in the 2001 Johnson motor for a 2017 Honda 90, and to get lower unit coverage I had to rewrite my coverage to another company to get the coverage. I have had to cancel many boat policies with Progressive and write in a different company to get the lower unit coverage for boats over 10 years old, but the motor is less than 10 years old, and most cases the motor is new. Help!!!
