“Employers with large part-time populations, such as retailers and health care organizations, are faced with the difficult choice of either increasing the number of employees eligible for coverage, or changing their workforce strategy so that employees work fewer hours,” said David Rahill, president of Mercer’s Health and Benefits business. “With the average cost of health coverage now exceeding $10,000 per employee, a big jump in enrollment is not economically feasible for many employers.”

    Nice.

    I would interpret this as:
    * Business will only enact what they have to over the next 2 years (2014) That way they can develop a strategy if the law stands or if it is modified or repealed. If it stands, the number of people with full time better paying jobs will, most likely go down due to the cost of healthcare while the number of lower level part time jobs will go up. Great.
*Business will reduce the number of full time employees to part time and under 30 hours per week. This will put more people on the Buy insurance or get taxed rolls or get it free and have all other taxpayers pay for it. Great.
*Business will look to shift more jobs out of the US and into countries that have good HR pools and are not forced to pay $10,000 or more per year in Obamatax per full time employee. That means less employed, increased burden on the rest of us, high unemployment and a workforce pool of diminished opportunity. Great

You’re right, we should just go back to the way things were. Because things were working sooooooo well. Heck, let’s just pass an amendment to get W. Bush back in office for a third term and really destroy this country. The ball is rolling in the right direction now with unemployment numbers coming down (though not far enough) and the economy steadily improving. My company continues to hire. I’m not buying the Fox News lies. GoBama 2012!

Hey Planet, I think your brain is on vacation. Unemployment numbers coming down???? According to the labor department, only 85,000 new jobs created when 215,000 are needed to stay up with the new workers entering the workforce. By the way, 85,000 people left the workforce and applied for Social Security Disability. I don’t count that as “progress”. Most of the small business out there who has Group Health said that if the law stands, they will drop coverage, pay the fine and throw their employees into the exchanges and let them buy it on their own. NoBama2012.

From the time our President took office to now, the numbers have come down. And, unless we continue to get away from the policies that put us in this position in the first place (deregulation and tax cuts can’t solve EVERYTHING and trickle down my left foot), we’ll become like the Rome ruins.

My company is not in Idaho, in Des Moines. I’m just glad not to be a firefighter or a police officer in Scranton. I’d need more than minimum wage to perform those tasks.

Planet, still blaming Bush I see. The Democrats controlled Congress for the last two years of his Presidency and that is where all the disastrous legislation emanated from and Obama signed onto all of it. Bush’s failings were many and I hold him to account for not vetoing the majority of it. I also hold Democrats accountable for their Progressive agenda which has suceeded in bringing us to the point of bankruptcy with their unending entitlement spending. I know $16 Trillion doesn’t bother you in the least, but the chickens will come home to roost on this country. It is interesting that you made reference to Rome. Neor played his harp while Rome burned. That is what Progressive Socialism and this President is doing to this country presently.

Hey Esq. There is a reason why companies outsource. When you have a government that taxes excessively, unions which drive up costs of labor, companies will move their jobs offshore to make more money. Under Obama, companies have picked up the pace and look no further than Jeffrey Immelt, Obama’s job Czar who has moved whole divisions of GE to China. He has more people working overseas than he does in the USA. His title should be Outsourcer in Chief.

We have been lied to by politicians from both parties for decades and have elected a bunch of dufus Progressive Democrats and RINO’s who have implemented disastrous legislation that has had the effect of bringing the country to the brink of bankruptcy and taken a lot of our freedoms away. The reason why we have an “angry” attitude is what they have done to the greatest country on earth. That is why we are determined to replace them in November starting at the top. Hey, it might be a good thing to actually separate the health insurance as an employee benefit thing. It’s not a good relationship to begin with. It’s not like your employer has ever paid for your auto insurance.

And BTW, employers are not required to offer health insurance as a part of this bill and won’t be fined for not offering it. It’s the individuals that will be fined if they don’t have it, not the businesses. Again, the misinformed shouldn’t be stating something as fact.

Hey Swede, sorry to correct you, but any employer who has more than 50 employees will have to pay the fine for not offering health insurance to their employees. Of course, the big boys have already secured waivers along with the unions so they don’t have to comply with it. It is just the 50 to 500 employee companies out there and there are thousands of them will have to comply or pay. Most will drop coverage entirely. Is it any wonder that they won’t hire and will make sure they are under the 50 employee limit when this kicks in? This bill is the biggest job killer ever devised.

I think Capatain Planet might have a good idea. Let’s get the government to file some sort of amendment, fire Obama and put George Bush back in office. If we can return to his administration we would have, right off the top of my head:

    * 4.6% unemployment (that was what the rate was during his term) not the 8.3% It is today

    * With oil under $80. per barrel today, gas would be about $2.25 per gallon.

    * The deficit would be $780 Billion dollars rather than $15 or $16 Trillion.

    * Saved a trillion dollars on a stimulus plan that was wasted (an estimated 67% wasted) on gambling, drugs and alcohol.

    * Maybe put Barney Frank and Chris Dodd in jail. Remember they were the two who were responsible for the Mortgage crisis (Frank was the guy who demanded Fanny and freddie give loans to people without credit and no money down) and Dodd was Chairman of the banking committee.

    * Saved somewhere between $500 and $750 Million dollars on bad loans to Solyndra

    * Have someone who has been a soldier and has a support team that can manage a war rather than a community organizer who starts a third war with Syria and alienate israel

    * We sure would not have a healthcare plan that is unaffordable and will bankrupt the country or drive taxes so high we lose more jobs and business furthers its exodus out of the U.S.

Count me in. Where do I sign the petition?

One last comment. I had an email sent to me which, if it were not so true, would be amusing. I checked some data and revised it. Here we go—-

We are going to be “gifted” with a healthcare plan that we are “forced” to purchase and FINED/Taxed if we don’t.

It will cover about 30 million more people without adding any new doctors, nurses or other staff. There goes healthcare quality!

The Feds are going to hire somewhere around 15 to 16 thousand IRS agents to chase down the tax offenders ;-).The same group who can’t even catch illegal aliens who cheat on tax returns costing billions in US tax dollars

The bill was drafted by people who don’t understand the bill, passed in the middle of the night by a group who did not read it, exempted themselves from having to participate and then signed by a President that smokes.

The funding will be administered by the Treasury Chief who didn’t even pay his own federal income taxes. Tim Geithner in 2001 thru 2004 failed to pay $35,000.00 in self employment tax. He also hired a housekeeper without work authorization papers and kept her employed when he found out.

TAXPAYERS are being taxed 4 years in advance before any real “benefits” take effect by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security, medicare and the Post Office.

All of this will be overseen by a Surgeon General that is considered obese, Regina Benjamin. And finally the whole deal is financed by a country that is going BROKE. I say-

    What could possibly go wrong?

here’s part of a problem i see as well… employers who hire seasonal employees that work more than 30 hrs wk or those kids that work summertime as lifeguards at various pools more than 30 hrs — where is there healthcare? adult kids under 26 are allowed to stay on parents insurance, so what if they get pregnant? what about that grandkid? where’s that insurance? if employers opt-out on the insurance, why are we allowing business to do that? folks get employment to help w/getting health insurance. so the money save by not opting to help your employees, are you going to give that to the employee? NO! you are going to keep that in your pocket. so where does an employee get good health insurance at a reasonable cost? small business that don’t employ a lot of folks but have full-time workers, do they have health insurance available? if not, what do those workers do? does this new healthcare package protect eveyone it’s supposed to? all i see is $$$ coming out of the individuals…

If a son who impregnates his girlfriend or a daughter who becomes pregnant while on their parents health insurance, the infant will be insured on the sons or daughters parent’s health insurance. I know this for a fact because one of my friends has a son whose girlfriend is now expecting and they are waiting for the child to be born before they get married because the child will be on the sons parent’s health insurance plan. IF they chose to get married BEFORE the child was born, they would be expected to buy their own health insurance. As for your other points (which I had a hard time trying to follow) employers who would opt out of the Obamacare, employees would be expected to obtain their own insurance out of one of the plans our wonderful socialized president has to offer his followers and non-followers as well.

It can get complicated on this issue. Prior to now, maternity benefits were not provided on individual plans for an insured/spouse. After the baby was born, they could get well baby coverage and add them to the policy as a dependent. We have now awakened into a new world. If the young people are not married, how can coverage be added to include a girlfriend and a new baby? Are they now “entitled” because of relaxed rules? If the son was on the parents coverage under a Group Plan, will it cover maternity for unmarried persons? HMM! Something is wrong with this picture.

Actually maternity was offerd on insuance plans but removed when Obama started to mess with the system. I once sold health insurance but got out in 2010. Maternity insuance covers the mother, not the child. After the child is born and after a waiting period, then the chid can be added. My past post wasn’t very clear. I meant to say maternity insurance is provided for my frind’s sons expecting fiance. And yes, the son is on a group plan.

Congratulations Woodchuck. You are finally getting the picture of what is going on and how business is reacting to it. The money is just not there to fund benefits anymore with this disastrous law. It used to be that companies could attract great employees by offering them a good starting salary and an excellent benefits package with Health Insurance and retirement package. Now, they won’t be able to do that so they will outsource, put people on as sub contractors to avoid having to pay benefits or they will make sure they are less than 30 hours or keep their employment below 50 employees. When they drop the Group Coverage, the employees will be told to apply on the exchange and pay their own premium. By the way, the Medicaid type coverage offered on the exchange will not be comparible to most Group Plans. You are right that the $$$ will be coming out of the individuals pockets. Ain’t it great?

Perhaps they should be looking at the SEIU public sector union benefits to see if some savings can be made. This is typical of what is happening all over the country with cities going bankrupt because of their largesse and the money is just not in the till anymore to support the budget they have.

Yes, I have seen this summary before and it boggles the mind about the whole issue. I’m sure it makes perfect sense to our friend Planet who is so overjoyed that he read the entire bill when legal scholars couldn’t make any sense of it. I kind of doubt the Supreme Court read the bill either judging from their narrow ruling that it is a tax, not a fine. I have my doubts that Roberts read it or he would have ruled differently. Now it is up to the voters to get this repealed.

Captain Planet; The email is true. What information do you have that proves it wrong? The truth is the best defense and this is irrefutable. Fact is the drafters did not understand the entire scope of the bill. It was passed in the midde of the night with the Democratic congress not having read it and the US has ruined Social Security, Medicare and the Post Office. The Treasury Secretary is Tim Geithner and he cheated the federal government out of taxes on $35,000.00 of self employment income from years 2001 thru 2004. He also employed a hoisekeeper without work authorization papaers which probably means he did not pay taxes on her either. The President is pushing a healthcare bill while he smokes like a chimney as he is excempt from his own plan as is Regina Benjamin, the Surgeon General and she probably is considered obese. Besides that the counrty’s debt is so high we have to borrow from China just to make interest payments or we could possibly default.

It seems to me all you want to do is say “Oh it ain’t so”. “Say it ain’t so Barack, say it ain’t so”. What planet have you been visiting?

Good going Sargent Major. I think we will eventually see Planet reply with some links to his Media Matters or Moveon.org sites to try to refute what went down. We did live through this and saw with clear eyes what happened and who did this to us. Pelosi, Reid and Obama, along with their minions were determined to ram this down our throat and did whatever it took to do it because they saw it as a historic opportunity while they were in charge and had super majorities in both houses plus a leftist President guaranteed to sign it into law. Even with their big majorities, they still almost didn’t get it done and had to bribe, cajole Congress into passing it. The shellacking that the Blue Dogs took in Nov 10 is evidence that the American People didn’t want it. Now, we need to throw the rest of them out of power starting at the top.

Sarah, Somehow Virginia was left out of the summary. McDonald has turned that state around big time and turned a budget deficit into a surplus. I also think they have decreased the unemployment rate.
