    So much for the “Low Price Guarantee.” No way will Wal-Mart just absorb these additional costs, they’ll be passed on to consumers through higher prices for everything in the store.

      You make the unsupported assumption that the offer includes a company contribution toward the premium. A family plan offered to Walmart’s employees costs between $140 and $180 per pay period (2 weeks).

      They do not now (and will not be) offering coverage for spouses or domestic partners of employees whose position is classified as part time, regardless of the number of hours scheduled/worked each week.

        If Wal-Mart isn’t contributing to dependent premiums, then I stand corrected. However, if they are contributing, then we all know that they won’t just eat the entire cost of that contribution.

      No, the employee would have to pay for the additional coverage. I don’t think many employers (if any) pay the cost of family coverage for the employee.

    Wow, WalMart is actually starting to do some things right. I’ve read recently they are going to make a push to place more American-made products on their shelves. They are also going to try and be a bigger player in the craft beer market. With decisions like these, especially the decision to assist their employees and partners, I may have to start shopping there again. Maybe they have finally realized they can’t continue to treat their employees like dirt, peddle nothing but Chinese cheap crap, and expect Americans not to notice. I applaud this business decision.

    I hope UPS gets the crap sued out of them. That is so discriminatory. I can see them saying all spouses won’t qualify if they can get it through their employers, but to just say it to non-union workers. No wonder I don’t use them to ship packages. I’ll stick with the Post Office.
