Wonderland…..insurance is discriminatory by its very nature. Assumptions about cracking down do not apply in WA. WA fines “no insurance” tickets with a $550 fine which is waived if the driver goes to court and show they have bought insurance. Most of the drivers then go back to the agent and cancel their insurance. The interesting part is the independent agents in WA typically charge a high broker fee for the “no insurance” tickets, because these policies do not stay in force. Mandatory insurance was implemented in WA 1990. We still have 30% of our drivers without insurance. Taking the soft route does not work.

The problem with lower limits is that in a serious accident or an accident that causes major property damage, the limits are inadequate to protect the insured. Then the insured gets a judgement and possibly a wage garnishment against them. If the had an affordable higher limit policy it would do a much better job of protecting them, keeping them insured.

I have always thought that driving a car was a Privilege not a right. In exchange for that Privilege one of the things that we as a society agree to is that you must demonstrate financial responsibility. The Consumer Federation of America sounds like a typical left leaning entitlement organization that feels that society needs to help the poor underprivileged who just need to drive to work. What a bunch of BS.

It is a crime in every jurisdiction to operate a motor vehicle in violation of the rules so how can someone be responsible if they are not following the rules.

Then to add insult to injury they want to lower the minimum liability limits for these folks, not certain what planet this group comes from but here on earth if you total any new car you are looking at 25-30K minimum in PD and god forbid anyone in the car you hit is injured as medicals of 25-30K minimum are the norm for even minor injuries if they require any imaging at all.

I have always purchased uninsured and underinsured cover to protect myself, but can see this so called plan as doing nothing but increasing my costs as the “responsible” folks that they want to help will continue to go without at any price as they just do not feel the rules should apply to them and the folks currently purchasing minimum limits will opt for the new minimums.

Mr Brobeck and Mr Hunter both qualify to work in the Whitehouse with these unworkable ideas.

I’m in favor of the low cost insurance option, as long as the CFA is responsible for paying the claims…

Bottom line– if someone could make money reducing the cost of insurance to the populations the CFA claims to be worried about, why wouldn’t they already be doing it?

Where to start … Ok try to follow along . Minuim wage is $7.50 in my state So a single person working full time makes $14,000 a year no taxes dectuded in this example mind you … Now this single person has to find a place to live we will say RENT $300 a month that’s {$3.600} a year just for a roof over your head … So now we have Utilities gas, electric, water we will be underbid the estament on this example . we will say $150 a month that’s {$1,800} and in many states its also illegal not to have running water or electric (if you have kids) but remember were using a single person in this example .. And yes we need food Life sustaining in fact have to eat so we gave this $100 That ends up being {$1,200} a year so Now we just have that basics bare miniumin. So now after you 14.000 a year income how much is left ? Ok so now you have $7,400 left over seems like that’s enough to get insurance right ? But we still need to drive and on average I think its say to say we spend $30 a week just on gas a year that’s another {$1,400} just to get to work Now you got a whopping $6000 left over at the end of the year… Man coming up in the world … Now lets back up and take the $14,000 a year amount and take out the 20% taxes that you get that’s $11,000 you have now at the end of the year. factor in all the bills You spend 8,000 A YEAR IN BILLS you have $2000 left over and on a small scale insurance wants $1,200 a year now get this you got $800 ALL TO YOUR SELF wait still got tags renewals and registration and heck maby even property tax But we wont worry about that the point is …. Poor people cant afford it I got a letter from All state saying they cant insure me because of my credit …. Had all im going to take
